I just noticed yesterday while getting tires balanced that one of my brake drums has a small amount of metal that was taken off presumably at manufacture and I'm guessing to balance it. When looking at the drum there is a thick edge ring on the side closest to tire and on this ring its like a round metal eating tool was use to shave of about 3/16 to 1/4 inch deep of metal. The other side is not touched. Am I correct to assume this was for balancing purposes when it was made? It looks like it's been this way since new.
