Just replaced rear brake shoes and drums on my 1997 ram. I adjusted shoes with a slight drag. Now i have a rear hop or pulsating vibration from the rear. Do i need a special tool to adjust them? Any suggestions will be appreciated. Thanks robert fulton

same problem existed with the old drums on the new shoes. That is why i put new drums on. Could there be a problem with the abs. Also is there any information in the back issues of tdr. I have all of them but could not locate any info. Thank you... robert fulton

This vibration thing, is it with or without brake pedal input or both? Did it do it with the old shoes? It might be loose wheel bearing adjustment.

Nick

It is hard to tell if it is from both sides. It happens with brake pedal input. The old shoes had a lot of material left which makes me wonder if they were doing much braking. I will check the wheel bearing adj. Thanks bob

Did you do a run in? or is this problem just out of the drive way? sounds like the ABS is working with the new grabby brakes. Drum brakes have to seat/broken in to the round drum to be effective.

Did you spray brake clean on the drums to remove the protective coating? Also, if a tire is out of round, it will sometimes become more evident when brakes are applied. More than likely they have you bad drums. Good luck

Robert Fulton... . I didn't know the Clermont had brakes at all, much less ABS. Did James Watt help design the system? ***couldn't resist*** For those of you who came through the public school system after the mid-80's, those two men are from the BC era (before Clinton)
