Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) What Gives

I previously posted about my rear brakes seeming to inactivate under panic brake situations.

Responses centered on load/height sensor.

I got my Dodge repair book out and checked for this item. The book has a nice description with pictures of the valve and location/linkage. BUT... It doesn't exist on my truck (heavy duty with trailer towing package).

I did trace the rear brake line and find up under the hood on drivers side fender well a black electronic box with wires that lead to what looks like a valve of some kind that the rear brake line runs through.

What does this do?? Can it be disconnected? Since electronics are now part of the equation, I am a little afraid to drive the truck until I know what is going on. As usual, a call to my dealer was no help.

HELP!!!!!!@

Just be gratefull that you don't have 4 wheels doing it, like the newer trucks.

This kind of engineering is ok for those you drivers with little experience but us proven drivers will get into trouble with this .

I have yet to be in a situation where being in a straight line was more important than the stopping disance!!!!!!!!!!

Several times in quick stops, I was slipping one tire ( due to sand or something like it) , the safety feature almost caused damage.

It has potential but is yet a completely engineered idea.

Thanks for the response. It just seems dangerous to have half your braking force suddenly and unexpectedly removed, especially in a panic situation.

I guess the automatic trans doesn't help matters either since it will add to the forward "PUSH".

Dodge in their infinite wisdom has created another "wish it wasn't there".

Thanks for the responses.

Rear brakes

My 98. 5 does the same thing at a panic braking situation. Scares hell out of me when it happens. I do have ABS all the way around also. Oo.

Seems this is a common occurance. I cannot find anything to indicate Dodge acknowledges a problem or potential problem????

What are the "poor" owners to do about a dangerous situation fosted on us by our great polititions who know better than us what we need.
