Can anyone recomend a good aftermarket bumper.

My truck was backed into in a parking lot and the stock bumper was pushed in and dented and broke the drivers side taillight. It was a hit and run with the other person having no insurance, registration, etc.  So that leaves me to take care of the repairs. I want something that is stonger than the stock one so that I won't have to replace parts in the future. I have heard of Denver Off Road and Ruenel. Are the re any onthers that I should consider. I would need to have one with a receiver hitch. I amalso considering a replacement for the front bumper in the future.

Thanks for the help.

4x4 Iron

I'm getting ready to weld a kit bumper that I bought from a company in Colorado called 4x4 Iron. Check them out at: www.4x4xiron.com (looks like a link, we'll see if it worked in a minute).

Anyway, I was trying to design my own rear bumper and wasn't really getting anywhere. I was trying to replicate a Hummer H1 bumper with a swinging tire carrier. Easier said than done. So, one day while surfing the Colorado K5 Blazer site I found these guys. What I like is they'll sell you a kit or you can buy a complete unit. You've got options too. They offer swinging tire carriers, receivers, side protection, and two tube types. They're pretty off road oriented and simple, but they don't offer a winch mount or storage. Another thing is they are relatively inexpensive. When Layne gets his DOR rear model out you can bet it'll be pricy (aluminum) and the Reunels... well, I just didn't really like any of their models. I'm going to be a week or two before I have time to weld mine, but I've received all the components and I like what I see.

There are many choices for the front. I like my DOR better every day. Good luck.

I installed a ranchhand on mine after a couple of minor but unsightly dents in the original; I was surprised at how flimsy the stock bumper was when removed.

The ranchhand is very sturdy and heavy. I checked with ranchhand first about being able to use my factory frame mounted hitch and was told "no problem". After installation I discovered that the ranchhand projects about 5 inches beyond the receiver. My options were finding a ball mount that is 5 inches longer (I bought an adjustable one from Camping World) or installing a receiver beneath the bumper.

Thanks for the replies.

I noticed that the Ranchhand is capable of 1000# tounge and 10000# trailer. But that is reduced by half with the receiver. How is it 10000# rated then? With the ball bolted directly to the bumper?

Are there any bumpers that have a receiver built in with a higher towing capacity, and possibly a lower receiver tube?
