Recently while checking all my fluids, I found a good bit of very small shavings on the magnetic fill plug on my rear differential. They are very small shavings but enough to make me wonder. The fluid level was good and looked ok. Is this normal wear and tear or is there something else going on? TIA

Depends

How long has the fluid been in there? Is it the original factory fill? I'd drain and refill, then check it again after a couple of thousand miles. If you're still getting much debris, you may want to check further. And it's not a big deal to pull the cover and have a look around. The r&p should have nice, square edges on the teeth and even wear marks.

Good luck,

Don
