When my mag-hytec cover wouldn't stop dripping, I decided to take it off and see what was wrong. The answer was obviously due to the stampings on the case itself. So I filed them off and all is well.
Anyway, I noticed the housing that holds the spider gears was discolored in the area where the spider gear shafts are held in place. Discolored in a way that looked like it had seen some really intense heat at some point.
Why didn't I notice this last week when I installed the cover??
Doubt I put 25 miles on the truck total this week ?...
Considering the truck has a posi rear... . How could those spider gears turn enough to create that kind of heat? The ring and pinion gear look fine. The magnet didn't have chips on it... . just the usual metal dust. .
I showed the neighbor and he thought it might have been that way from factory. Possibly from the manufacturing process.
Can anyone confirm?
