I've got a 2005 Honda Odyssey. I'm having an issue with the rear brakes. I had some shimmy, so I removed the rotors and had them turned. I witnessed the turning of the rotors and attest that it was done correctly.



The issue: When braking moderately to heavily, I get a "thump thump thump thump" sound from the left rear. The thumping slows down as the vehicle slows. Meaning that from a 60Mph stop, the rythem goes from say 20 thumps a second down to 1 thump a second as a approach 0Mph.



I've disassembled the brakes (NEVER taking the line loose) and reassembled them a couple of times, and have not been able to find any issues.



I also had new tires mounted and balanced today at a local shop I trust. They also did a visual inspection of the rotors and calipers and were not able to see any issues.



Any ideas? I'm leaving for a 10 hour trip tomorrow with the family and fixing this before I leave would give me great piece of mind.

Is your VIN# 5FNRL38... B000192 thru 5FNRL38... B019361 ?

If so there was a recall for the rear including new knuckles and speed sensors so maybe check that out.

I swapped the rotors just a few minutes ago. Issue persists, but is MUCH less pronounced. To me, this is even more curious.



Also note that this happened at the EXACT time I put the rotors on after being turned... that's whats keeping me from looking too deep into knuckles, bearings, etc...

I am surprised to hear the rears needed turning. When we see warped rotors they are on the front where most of the stopping is done. We are in the mountains so always replace rather than turn. When material is removed, they are more susceptible to warping as there is less material to dissipate the heat so if it was warped in the first place its gonna happen faster next time IMO.



On smaller rotors such as these its most always excessive brake heat or uneven lug torque. Based on what you said above I would start with a new pair and go from there.
