Driver's Door Window Switch

I had some time this weekend so I was able to replace the wiring harnesses in both rear doors of my quad cab. It is so nice to have the locks, windows, and speakers working again.

I know soldering is quicker and cheaper, but I replaced with new harnesses instead.

It was a pain to get to the plug on the door latch at the rear of the door, but I did it!

I replaced the harness a couple of years ago in the driver's side rear door. But, the same issue has cropped up again - but now on both rear doors. So it looks like I have repair or place the harnesses on both sides...

Were you able to source the harnesses from someone other than the dealer? If so, did you purchase them at a competitive price?

I got my harnesses from Mopar4Less.com which is Advantage Dodge in NM. If you use them, be sure to ask for "Internet Pricing" everytime you order something; it makes a big difference and if you don't ask they will stick you with regular dealer pricing. IIRC, I got two for just under $300 (the left and right are the same part number). I thought that was dang high, but the regular price was between $400 - $500 for the set:--)

Yes, I searched and tried to source elsewhere, but did not have any luck. One thought is that the '03s - '05s are the same. We are getting close to 10 years on the '03s so Dodge may release some of the dealer only stuff to the aftermarket soon. This is something that should certainly be cheaper if it ever hits aftermarket. I will try to get part number off of one of my old ones and see if I can take the part number and source aftermarket. I will post here if I am able to source elsewhere.

I have come up with an idea for a better design, but time, money, and ROI may prevent it from ever being done.

The common problem on the rear doors is for the wires to break between the B-pillar and the rear door frame where the wires bend when the doors are closed. That is where I would start on the front door, but front door issues are more rare; I have not had any issues with my front doors other than having to replace the driver door latch a long time ago. The problem there was that the door lock would not unlock and stay unlocked so you could open the door to get in. Of course, my luck made sure it was raining cats and dogs on the day the door latch went out and I had to crawl in on the passenger side and slide across with wet feet.:mad:

Hello, this is my first post here, I've been hitting this site since I started shopping for a diesel last spring. I ended up with an 03 with pretty low miles back in August, but I have been totally snakebit. Whoever got rid of this thing saw the writing on the wall. Right now I am dealing with the above mentioned shredded wiring, the power windows work, but no speakers or locks. I don't really want to spend $300 on new wiring harneses, and I am thinking about using some flex conduit. Any thoughts? The cuts in the wire are about midway into the rubber sleeve, should I just cut into it, splice and heat shrink?

Thats all you have to do... ... lots cheaper than the harness from the dealer, however, getting the boot back over your splice(s) can be difficult if not impossible.

Remove the harness from the vehicle. Replace all of the wires one at a time with better wires. Solder them in. The main problem is that the braided wires are made of to course wire strands. Mopar has had this problem since the mid 90's.

Gotta source wires with fine braided strands. Color of the wires is unimportant, main thing is where they connect to.

I repaired mine at 30,000 miles.

After first losing the dome light when I open the rear driver's side door, I eventually lost the power lock and windows functions. Sure enough, half the wires in the rubber boot were broke. A little repair work and all is functioning properly. Thanks for the insight, the is the most informative website.

I am having issues with no rear power windows/locks or speakers... and dome light now does not turn on when I open the rear doors. Just awesome when the answer is right at your fingertips... . and the solution is pretty simple!! Thanks to all who contributed to this post, very helpful!

two years ago my drivers door lock stopped working. last month it started working again. I wonder if the problem is a bad wire in the door.

Looks like I have this issue as well. I am glad I didn't buy speakers and a door lock actuator first.

VERY VERY common on all Chrysler/dodge/jeep products. The only problem we had with our grand Cherokee was the door wiring. I got it on both rear doors of my megacab. No dome light or power windows on drivers side and no speaker and door lock on passenger side. Gotta find me some fine strand wire
