I opened the drivers door this morning and heard something fall on the ground.

I looked and didn't see anything, but on closer inspection the rear drivers side door window was covered with spider web like cracks but still intact with no signs of any kind of impact.

I parked it last night after 7:00 PM so I don't think it is heat related.

The window was intact that is until I started the beast and then it just completely fell out in a million pieces, all of the pieces fell inside the cab of course.

Anyone else have any experience with a problem like this?

And any ideas on replacement $$$.

Have to check with my insurance company for glass breakage I guess.

That sucks Jim.

I had a sports car and someone stole my glass top once. To get at it, they smashed both door windows.

Glass would work it's way out of nooks and crannies for months and months after that.

Was that side of the truck parked facing a street ?

No it was in my driveway, about 40 feet off the road

Safelite is coming to replace it tomorrow afternoon,

costs me a $ 100. 00 Deductable on my Insurance Policy.

One day after work I had to put some junk in the back of my Jeep (Grand Cherokee) and I closed the hatch. Heard noise like ice falling off the roof (was winter) but that didn't make sense. Look over to the pass. side and the back door window had blown out.

Not sure if someone broke it or what... cause a few days later I found my valve core loosened in a pass. side tire... enough to leak out air.

Yeah I will probably never know, like I said I saw no visible sign of any impact

with the window.

Lady from the glass place said they are busy with a lot of windows

blowing out in the heat. Who knows.

I was at my local dealer yesterday and saw a large U shaped crack on the r/f door window of a brand new truck on the lot. No sign what so ever of a point of impact, just a perfect crack about 10" up and back in a U shape from the bottem.

They said it was from th e heat. Its been over 105 for the last week straight.

Well it was low 90's here yesterday, I would think the windows should be able to handle that.

But I guess they just don't make them like they use to.

tempered glass can go pop real easy. . when i use to work for my pop, we'd remove lots of windows and tempered glass ones you could smack pretty hard with a framing hammer before it broke, but just a touch with an ice pick and it went boom. .

Me too

I had the passenger window self-destruct on my '98. Dodge covered it under warranty. Evidently it's not unheard of for windows to fail. They are tempered glasss, which means that they are always under a stress and if there is a slight crack, void, or stress riser they can fail rather dramatically.

Seen a couple of 06 rear door glass crack. It shows up very soon in the life of the vehicle and does not shatter like normal. It is a crack line going through the glass. STAR said it is probably from improper handling in the plant.

The rear passenger side window did it on my 04 when it was a year old. I was standing in the kitchen when I heard a loud pop, went out and found the window shattered but still in one piece. Looked all over it and no marks of something hitting it. Was a cool day in November, so it had to be stress. The minute I tried to open the door, it disentergrated. 1000's of pieces, I was still finding them in the truck when I traded it off last month. Dealer said warranty would not cover glass, but he had it fixed at his cost.
