Changing drums:

Take the hub assembly off the axle- remove the axle shaft, take the retaining nut off (special 2-9/16 socket, or hammer and chisel), slide the hub off.

lay the drum with the lug bolts facing up. Using a drift or block of some sort, punch the lug bolts out, Hub SHOULD come right up and off. This is just a basic run down of how to do it.

Dually spacers:

There are no spacers on the duallies. The offset is built in, so to speak, the designt of the hub and wheels. BUT, if you try to run dual wheels on a SRW pickup axle, you can run into problems with the wheels rubbing the inside of the bed, and having to get new lug bolts and nuts. THe axles are wider on a pickup (vs C&C) dually than a SRW. If you have a flatbed, I see no problem.

I haevnt heard of the rear ends snapping, per se, unless you abuse them. The limited slip clutches go out if you dont keep the fluid changed, and forget the additive, or enough of it. And, the R&P backlash needs to be reset, on averge, every 150-200K. These D70s like to throw shims in a tantrum for not getting fresh fluid often enough. :rolleyes:

The SRW axle is the narrowest one of the three axles used in our trucks. If you try to us duals on it. The inner dual will hit the spring assy and bed. You need at least 3/4" of spacer to clear the springs. :( (I do not recommend spacers). You need even more to clear the bed.

The hubs are different on the DRW axles. Dual wheels have a raised lip around 4 stud holes. These are called coins. A SRW hub assy does not have these centering coins built into them.

You would be better off finding a dually axle.

I haven't seen any D70's snaped before. But I have seen them bent. I removed one out of my truck 4 years ago that was bent 1 3/16's straight back at the angle of the drive shaft. :{
