The traction enhancing assembly or the carrier assembly in the rear end came apart in my 07 C&C this past week and pretty much made a mess of the rear end. Needed the carrier assembly, carrier bearings, pinion gears and bearings and the pinion seal. The axle bearings and other gears were OK so it was put back together and hopefully it will keep going for a while longer. I had lost a carrier bearing about 3 yrs ago and it knocked a hole in the cover and lost the oil. The pin weight on my trailer is around 2500 lbs empty so the rear end has a pretty good load on it all the time. I'm not planning to get a new truck before I retire so I'll just keep fixing this one unless it gets totaled or something. If that happens I'll probably be totaled with it.

Sorry to here about your trouble EB. From your reports, which I have enjoyed, it has been a good truck. Hope you have a good result with the repair.

All the best.

Thanks for the comment. I guess it's something to be expected, the truck has over 570,000 miles on it now. It's really been a trouble free truck. For the most part I just get in it and drive. I just do the regular maintenance. Things are slowing down in the oilfield in my area and that is OK with me. I did just get back from a plant move, put about 1500 miles on it plus another 3-400 miles before that since the rear end was fixed, so I feel like it is good to go for a while longer. I'll be checking in from time to time but I have several projects going on around the house to keep me busy when I'm not on the road.

Thanks for the update, it has been interesting following your mileage piling up. I hope your truck gets you to your retirement date without too much trouble.

It is good Preventive Maintenance to get a backlash reading from diffs at first service and recheck at each later service. As the lash starts increasing, you can use it as an indicator to rebearing before things fly apart and get expensive.
