I changed my rear diff fluid today, 14. 5K, and found a large amount of wear on the outer end of the ring gear teeth. Has anyone else seen this? Is this a problem, is this normal? Most of my auto expieriance is with antique cars, any imput will be appriciated.

monstar i've changed my oil 2 times the first at 10k and the oil was filthy with a lot of wear metals. but the ring gear looked bran new. what makes a lot of metal in my opion is the torsen locking differential. it actually looks like its wearing thru the carrier but its not its the way its made. but if i read you're post right its wear on your ring gear that shouldn't be. could you post a picture? if its as you say then you may have a serious problem and the second time i changed my oil it was clean at 25k and ring gear still looks bran new. hope this helps and if you do a search on here you can probably find a picture of some ones ring gear to compare ron

Thanks for the reply. I am tempted to take this to the ******* but... . well... . they are full of it. What can cause this type of wear, and what should I look for. I would rather fix it myself than have the dealer screw it up.

sounds like it may be due a lash adjustment, but under warranty you'll probably just end up with a new one..... unless you're bombed!
