PowerStroke 4.5-liter V-6 diesel engine

Diesel folks more honest?!

just bought a former consolidated freightways truck -- I really like it -- especially the price -- however it has a top speed of 59 miles per hour -- how much would it cost to pay a shop to switch the gearing in the rearend or would it be better to remove the governor -- i would prefer to switch the rear end gearing because on the tach the operating range is currently at the upper level of the green (i think i would get the best efficiancy in the green) if i remove the governor i think at 70mph i would be in the caution area and not the best for the motor or fuel mileage

any help or advice really would be appreciated.

Which engine and year? WE used to run the 400 big cam 1's and 4's at 2450rpm for hours @ a time with no ill effects. Then the trucking company got smart and quit buying direct transmissions.

9 spd and low gears or what?

What rpm are you running at 59? In the lower gears what will the engine rev too?

First thing I would do is take it to a Cat shop and hook up the computer and set upper engine limit all the way up, and the vehicle speed limit all the way up. They will prolly charge you an hour shop rate. Cheap to do and try compared to taller rear gears. Or bring it to my house and I will hook my laptop up to it and reset it!

Talking about efficiency, 59 is gonna be much more efficient then 70 no matter what.
