All the metal chunks are from the first rebuild seems the tech doesn't now how to clean out junk before he reassembles things! The cairrer was so loose that the ring gear would move about a 1/2 " when you rocked the driveshaft. When I went back he was installing the new parts and was not going to clean it again! The service manager said that they would fill it and then run it and them dump the fluid and refill it again. Smart thought run all the crap through the new bearings and gears! If this tech worked for me he would be looking for a new job right now!Nice that DC likes to pay for this kind of "Craftsmanship".

Years ago I had a B210 datsun come in with a worn out diff. New was priced out of sight and we found a used chunk that looked new. Good price/happy customer etc. About a month later customer shows up with a bill and the chunk we put in. It was totaled. Big piece of ring gear broken off etc. The TECH who installed the USED one did not clean out the bottom of the housing and customer went over about 6 railroad tracks that were rough. Big junk of the original broken one I guess vibrated/jumped up between the new/used one we installed and locked it down right on the last track. I paid his bill from where ever of course. The TECH who installed it turned red and was shocked he had done this. He had 20 years experiance and was a grown man.

just fill out their survey cards very honestly when they mail them to you... and send a CC to the dealer, and to the local newspaper's auto section editor with pictures and explainations. . that will light a fire under someones ***...

It's absolutely disgusting what some "certified" technicians will do during a repair. A few years ago, when a buddy had his rear come apart (another "certified" professional over-torqued the ring gear bolts, probably used an impact gun, and most all of them sheared off), I spent well over an hour cleaning out the housing... yanked the axle bearings, both pinion races, used up two cans of BrakeKleen and almost an entire roll of shop towels, but it was spotless before any new parts went in.

And my salesman wondered why I laughed out loud when he mentioned that he hoped they would get my business for all my truck's service needs. Heck, I had them replace a battery under warranty, and they even managed to screw that up.

To paraphrase the great George Carlin, auto techs are no different than children... some winners, but a whole lotta losers. :)

 I did that and was treated like this [see post].

I also have the whine at low speeds when pushing in the clutch. Its sounds like *****! Driveshaft has way too much play. My guess is backlash has increased and gear contact point has changed causing the whine.

Honestly, I'm 1 step away from getting a powerpuke or dmax. Sorry... but way to frustrated with DC, the 3 dealers I had poor experiences with, the truck sounding as if it's falling apart at close to 30k miles, unable to get it repaired even though I've got the 100k bumper to bumper warranty. All my complaints were responded with the same old "Its working as designed sir!". My arse as designed... .

All of them do NOT want to back up their product. It is as if they were sent an internal memorandum to avoid all warranty work

 Very upset. Very disappointed.

Starting to really hate DC, Dodge and their way of doing business. (Love the Cummins though, so right now its a love-hate relationship. )

Those are the same lame responses I get from the dealer. "We checked it against another truck and it is the same. "I Love the motor but the rest is junk!I would like to know how much of this bs is coming from the dealer and how much is coming from DC!I think I'm going to try and get it bought back! I have already met the lemon law requirments. I don't think this thing will last till the thing is payed off!

Just from talking with "normal" people I get the impression that the general public's knowledge of the modern automobile and its various systems is dwindling fast. I can only imagine the garbage service departments must hear from people. If 7/10 people who came in for service everyday couldn't hardly identify which end of the vehicle is the "front" you'd get real cynical real fast. Now, if you add onto that an almost complete lack of knowledge about the product you're selling/servicing you get dangerous incompetence (not saying all service writers are incompetent, just making an example).

Now, in my opinion the people who frequent this site (and those like it) are really quite knowledgeable. But the service department doesn't know that (or care, really), so they assume you're a doofus just like everyone else. Hence, your opinion on matters is uneducated and uninformed and the goal is to get you out of there as quickly as possible. "It's normal", "They all do that", "I don't hear anything", "Could not duplicate problem".

What if dealerships stopped servicing automobiles and instead independent service centers for each of the major brands were created that ONLY service vehicles? Fully backed by the manufacturer, these service centers would create a network of people whose only business is to fix vehicles (be they in warranty or not) and become experts on all vehicles from a particular manufacturer. Might make things better...

Sad part is is Most of them know me and know my backround and still think they can BS me like I don't know anything and just fell off the turnup truck!I think they are still mad at me cause they wanted me to come work for them about about a year ago and i told them i did not want to take a cut in pay!Kinda made the service manager mad. After 30+ years working on this stuff I probably forgot more than the tech that worked on my truck knows!Talked to the laywer today and he is going ahead with the lemon deal. I don't want to spend this much and have a truck that won't last.
Ryan I think that idea would work except for you know someone is gonna figure a way to scamm the mfg. and ruin it for the rest of the shops.
