have this noise coming from the rear when i am on the throttle between 55-70ish(cruisin speeds)but goes away when i coast it has been there since i bought the truck but now with 2000miles on it it statrs the noise at 20 mph all the way up but now the noise seems further forward any suggestions thanks

There are lots of threads about this. Try a search on "rear end noise", and you'll get lots of hits.

The situation you describe has been reported by a number of other people, some of whom were able to fix it. What works for one truck doesn't seem to necessarily work for another. Could be pinion angle, or something more serious (requiring a new rear end).

How loud is it? Does it hurt your ears?

 I had my rearend rebuilt becuase it whined. never thought it was that loud but compared it to g-friends 2500 cummins and yeah its louder. . so I took it in and they had to rebuild the rear. i thought it was a pinion bearing but the r&p was pretty scored. I would take it in. probably going to get a new rear. ( in your truck that is)

brought the truck to the dealer(Stevens Dodge milford ct. )and they told me that the rear is wiped and they are replacing it with a new rear off the assembly line hope this one is better

chysler has a system wide problem on the rear ends they have notified dealers they will not pay for one more rear end. they problem of whining and howling will be resolved for the 2005 models. you will not get it repaired anymore. this is a total stonewall folks Houston we have a problem. no you just have bad noise

Mine's goin in on Wednesday for a new rear under warranty!Thing is full of metal. They said at 1500 miles everything was ok noise is normal. Ya right! I just kept on pullin heavy and was hopeing it would conk out in the middle of no were with the trailer on it!Don't think they would like that tow bill!

At just over 500 miles, I have noticed the ocassional, VERY faint whine. Comes and goes. I am keeping my ear very carefull tuned to the rear end.

They put an entire new axle in mine, no argument, no complaint from me. I just said I have a whine, they ordered a whole new axle, called me when it was in and installed it for me.
