I notice a hum coming out of the rear end. I have the 2500 and it's most noticeable when I'm letting off the pedal. It even does it when I put it neutral and coast to a stop. Is this normal, or do I have something wrong with the AAM? First Cummins, first Dodge, freaking awesome!

It may be normal. If you want to be sure, check the tooth contact pattern and the backlash. Nothing mechanical on the truck is absolutely quiet, but some folks are more sensitive to the noises than others.

I'd take that truck directly to the dealer, and take the service manager out for a spin with the radio turned off so he can hear it humm. If nothing else for right now, for documentation purposes when it does get loud and you want them fixed/replaced.

They shouldn't humm, whine or make any other noise. If the gears are right, they're quiet.

If he suddenly comes down with a deafness problem, then take a new truck off the lot for a spin and do a comparison.

rear end hum

Try and have your rear end oil level looked at, Mine was 3 QTS

low,I am told that 4 or 5 QTS is full @ the fill plug! just A thought

good luck at the dealer GWD

I got a slight hum on mine under certain conditions. Very slight something I can live with. I guess I have to good of a hearing. Had them check it but the level was correct on this one. Its on paper if it does ever get worse. Overall this 04 is better than the 03 I had.
