Checked my rear end today and found it was low, couldnt even feel the fluid sticking my pinky finger in. (man that just doesnt sound right!) Made an appt with the dealer tomorrow a. m. Im a little concerned about a rear end with almost 7,000 miles on it with an obvious defect on assembly. Should i push for new ring and pinion? What should i look for on the existing set?i. e. discoloration due to high heat, etc. ?Could use some advice from any members who have "been there and done that" Thanks,Mark.

My 03 was low in front & rear. Noticed it around same milage. Had dealer top it off. Every thing was fine. Then I read article on AAxle. Said it shouldn't be filled to top. Also said should use synthetic with no fric mod. Not what owners manual said! I'll see what the new truck manual says when I get it.

I'd be sure the dealer carefully enters the low fluid level as a complaint. That way if the axle grenades down the road, you can show that it's a problem that developed before the warranty was up.

Mine started howling at about 5,000 miles also low fluid. dealer took off cover ,ring and pinion-- blue. dealer replaced entire rear end. every thing new but the tires and rims.
