Rear Leaf springs or Coil overs ?

I'm considering a newer Dodge 2500, between a 08 and 2012 year. What year did they start going to rear coil overs? And is it a big improvement over the leafs ?

It was after 2012. My 12 has leaf springs. 2014 is the year they went to coils on the 2500. I read on the RV forum people debating but I think overall people are happy with them. It has more parts like links and bushings than the standard leafs so only time will tell how they hold up long term.

It was 2014 for the 2500. My 2013 still has the leaf spring and the 5 link front end.

Just a heads up......
"Coilovers" and "coil springs" are two different things. Coilovers contain a shock within the coil as a single unit (hence "coilover"- coil spring over shock). These trucks have coil springs and separate shocks.

...and as stated, 2014 and up.

Very True I had a brain fart but meant Coil Springs.
Iv'e never ridden in anything but a 1 ton or a half ton so I know nothing about the ride in a 2500 with Leafs or coil springs but am leaning torwards a 3/4 ton Truck in the future. I would have to guess that the coil springs must ride nicer like a half ton or Pass. car. But yeah all those extra links and bushings to wear out. YIKES

While coil springs can ride better it still comes down to spring rate and they have a similar rate to a leaf spring 2500 so the ride is not exactly that of a 1/2 ton.

Hey Guys.
First time post from a first time RAM owner
I just purchased a 2500 Big Horn with a Cummins in it.
I have owned Fords and GMs and also Mack & KWs.
The RAM ride with the coil springs suspension is very nice.
It doesn't feel like you are driving a 3/4 ton truck. It is very nimble on back roads as well. Also if you don't pay close attention to it it will get you a speeding ticket real quick.
