Anybody having problems with engine oil leaks? At 4500 miles the inspection plate below the torgue converter has motor oil getting ready to drip. It hasnt dripped on the garage floor yet, but I have a fine mist all over the frame crossmember. Im trying to remember and I think my 2002 CTD did the same. Is this the nature of the beast?

My cummins never leaked onto the ground but started to leak onto the oil pan. . The dealer replaced the pan gasket and the front timing chain cover and the problem is fixed... .

It may not be your rear main. The overflow tube for the 48RE transmission is there inside the bell-housing next to the torque converter. This overflow tube allows the transmission to self level to the correct level. It would look like the rear main is leaking but it could just be leveling the fluid in the transmission. You might pull the inspection cover and see if you can determine exactly where it is coming from. Is the oil Red or Black? Red would be transmission fluid.

Hope this helps.

My blowby tube is clean so I pulled the inspection cover and its motor oil. Not a lot, but a light film all over inside the housing. I wiped it all clean and will monitor it.

My 01 never dripped oil at all during the 100K miles I owned it. However my 03 leaked oil for the first 33,000 miles till I finally had the the service department convince after 4 visits. It turned out to be the rear main. :-{}
