Hi...

i have a friend who has a 1988 B2200 Mazda truck,

it sat for 4 months in his driveway, awaiting a new

head, new head installed, now it's leaking through the rear

main seal, mechanic says that it's because the seal dried

up sitting there, my friend and i are wondering if this is true ?

any help would be appreciated. .

also this truck has 190,000 miles.

thank you

dave

Are you sure that it is the rear main seal? Oil flows downhill. Make sure that it is not leaking from the back of the head. Yes they can harden up sitting. You don't say how many miles on truck. If it is the origional it could be the problem. Go to Mazda or auto parts store that has the rear seal to see if it is a standard one piece oil seal or a two-piece,remove the oil pan and rear main cap style. It should be the one piece "press in" style. You should have a line on a clutch if needed as long as you are in there.
