I decided to procrastinate on the seal replacement. When I drop the trans I do have a plan. I decided to try using a piece of 3/4 inch cabinet grade plywood to press the wear ring onto the crank. I'll use the flywheel to locate where to drill a couple holes, and buy some longer bolts. A piece of steel across the back of the plywood would keep the bolt heads from penetrating the wood. The pressing of the wear ring into the front of the wood would keep it from warping. I'll try to keep this thread in mind when I do the job and report the result.

Having issues with trans? Or is "when I drop the trans" just in reference to needing to replace rear main seal?

You're making me nervous:D

Don't get nervous, the trans is working great. I'm putting it off because I'm not 100% sure the rear main seal is leaking. I'm working on a couple external leaks.

Buy two long bolts in M12 x 1. 25 thread, cut off the heads, chamfer the ends and cut screwdriver slots with a hacksaw. Use them as guides to loosely install a manual transmission flywheel. Tighten the flywheel a bit at a time with the other six bolts (you will probably have to get a couple lengths, or use studs with nuts), going in a star pattern, to press the sleeve onto the crank. If the step on the back side of the flywheel might distort the sleeve, put the flywheel on backwards.

Thanks Joe. The only flywheel I have is the SB duel mass replacement and it is HEAVY! However, with the guide pins it might be doable, even for these weak arms, so I'll give it a shot.
