I got my seal kit yesterday from local dodge dealer. The only problem is there are no directions with this kit. I asked the parts guy where the directions are but he had no idea. But now that I see what it looks like I have a better idea of whats involved with getting the old one out. I think I can handle it, maybe just a few pointers. Thanks

Drill a small hole in the old seal and I use a sheet metal screw and a pair of vise grips to remove. Sometimes I end up trying two or three times but it will come. Put some greaese on your drill bit to collect the metal slivers.

When I install I put number 2 permatex around the circumfrence of the seal bore. I beleive if you had the instructions it would say to wet the outside of the seal with a mild soap and water solution.

Install it to the correct depth using the installation tool that should have been supplied with it. I use three sets of fender washers on three of the flyweel/flexplate bolts to get the seal started evenly. I then finish off by tapping on the installation tool wiyh a light ballpeen hammer . MAKE SURE YOU KEEP THE SEALING SURFACE ON THE CRANK AND INNER LIP OF THE SEAL CLEAN AND DRY(use a good contact cleaner or rubbing alcohal)!!!! Good luck. AJJ

Sorry to hear about the missing directions... .

The Key instruction is "Install Dry" as in, 'no oil on the sealing lip' for proper break-in & seal. The rest of the install is like a normal seal.

It might be wise to ask a knowledgeable shop if this is still the procedure and process.

Things change sometimes... .

Hey Troutdog!:)

Also consider the alternative method of removing the "Aluminum Rear Main Carrier" VS the "sheet metal screw" removal method mention in your original posting. Orig. Rear Main Posting.

The Cummins shop that pressed my seal into the carrier also used "Permatex" around the outside of the seal like they do on all repairs. It's not mentioned in the directions but they said this is how they do all of their Rear Main repairs VS the screw method.
