Howdy all,

Just wondering what the factory speaker size in the back of a '96 cc. I replaced the door speakers (6x9) but almost got into trouble because the new speakers where almost too deep and nearly hit the window frame etc. Now the rear factories are blown so might as well replace them too Oo.

Thanks for any help

osmith:

I believe they are 5 1/4. At least they were on my 96 extended cab. On my old 96 I also put 6x9's in the front and ran into the same problem. They fit but just barely. I did run into a minor problem that took a couple times to figure out. The darn speaker wire would come undone from the speaker. Turns out the window would occaisionally catch the wire and yank it off. Easy fix lengthen the speaker wire with plenty of slack. Enjoy the new sound.

The rears are 5 1/4,

However I was able to shoehorn 6 1/2's in the same spot with no cutting :p. (Boston Acoustic Rally 6 1/2's)

Great thanks for the replies guys. I'm wondering about the idea of fitting 61/2's in there now, especially with no cutting :D :D. this may sound dumb (im acustically challenged) but is the 6 1/2 and 5 1/2 the diamter for a round speaker? I'm assuming so if there's only one measurement.

As for the front speakers, I've not had the problem with the wire getting caught yet (knock on wood) but I remember that I didn't leave much slack at all in the wires so maybe they'll stay out of the way.

thanks again. .

They are round

The 6 1/2's fit on top of the hole as opposed to the 5 1/4 which fit flush into the hole. Thats how they fit without cutting and do not stick out into the door panel too much.

Thanks Mactruck,

I figured they were round, just wanted to make sure :) If they stick out of the hole, does the panel fit on afterwards?

my door speakers stuck out like that as well, I just put the door panel back on and it bulges out a bit now, but it's not too noticable.

I really like that denver bumper on your truck. . wish they made something like that in my neck of the woods. Mine is functional but not as pleasing to the eye :{

Thanks again...

Your neck of the woods  I live 2000 miles from Denver:rolleyes: .

Yes they fit on fine with just a slight bulge. I removed that cloth thats on the inside of the panel in front of the speaker. It's not noticeable at all.

Good Luck with your project.

Kevin

You need to take the speaker cover that comes with the speaker and take off the mesh leaving the round frame. Turn it over and fit it on the back of the mounting plate, and screw to the opening. the panel for the door does clear it.
