Rear seems to rebound off top overloads when lightly loaded and hit dips.

Has anyone removed these top overloads . This would leave a spring like the 3/4 ton.

My 98. 5 one ton didnt have these top overloads, ride was much better.

i wouldnt remove them entirely. the whole idea behind overloads is to have a light spring pack for normal driving, then to sink down a bit and make contact on the overloads for heavy hauling. in a sense giving you the best of both worlds. your 98. 5 likely had one single heavy spring pack & your overall ride comfort suffered.

possibly either, put longer or shorter bumper-stops in to change when the springs make contact. a little longer one will be in contact sooner, but it wont "bounce" off the contacts so much with the load you are carrying.

i believe there are also aftermarket stops available, some with a smoother transition.

On mine, there is a spacer between the main spring pack and the overload. Moving the spring down so it is below the spacer would keep it and give another 3/4 inch or so travel before it hits. I'm considering the swap for the reason you mentioned.

I don't have a dually, just a 3500 SRW 06 with overloads.

does you backend drop 2" before it hits the overloads? When I put my 5er on, it was dropping those 2" plus about another 1" of loading the overload springs.

Anyway, I put these new rubber bushings on the overload perches. The old ones were around 3/4" and the new ones are 2 5/8". While that sounds like a lot of difference, when you start to load the truck these 2 5/8" bushings have holes in them so they start to squash. End result is the truck don't drop as far when loaded (now its level loaded).

An extra benefit is when loaded to the point where your springs used to hit the perches and make noise, now the new bushings are somewhere between "full sized" and fully squashed so you never feel the helper springs kick in.

Empty I don't notice any difference so I just leave them on all the time.

I had the same issue, overloads wouldn't contact and when I hit a bump would make a slapping sound.

I purchased some new overload bump stops made by energy suspension. Unloaded they don't contact. With a load they contact and the slapping has gone away.

There was a thread about this a year or so ago...

go here and look at redramrod's post, this is exactly what I did and it works perfetct . . Scroll down to the pic!

In 98. 5 I ordered a new one ton dually. These overloads were a $95. option then. I did not opt. for them . Got the new truck WITHOUT the overloads. Worked great . NO NOISE AND NO REBOUNDING off the overloads because they weren't on there. Most load I carry is 15-1600 lb. I like the dually for the sway stability of the dual wheels as I pull a 35 foot travel trailer. Not a 5er. With the equalizer hitch I just don't get the big load and don't need the overloads.

I have noticed that on a 06 3/4 ton ,with no overloads , the main spring has 4 leaves, on the 06 one ton ,with overloads , the main spring has only 3 leaves.

Now to the original question,-- Has anyone taken these overloads off and how does it work??????????????
