Anyone changed ring & pinion on their trucks to a lower gearing?

A couple of weeks ago I installed a rear sway bar on my 93. Have not driven it much due to the head problem. This weekend I drove it to the shop that is installing the head (BPonci)and got to see what a difference it makes! :)

The drive was 3. 5 hours long with lots of curves. The truck definently rides flatter in the curves. Told the wife I wish I had done this years ago.

The bar was by Hellwig and was a pretty much straight forward install. Had a little problem getting to a bolt next to the gas tank but kept fooling with it and got it after about an hour of trying.

Thanks for the heads up! The limited slip setup can also put you 180 degrees in a heartbeat when taking off around a corner on wet pavement. Found that out one day when screwing around. Luckily there was no one close by so I didn't hurt anyone or anything.

My truck will want to come around on me if I would give it a tad too much throttle on wet pavement. Scary to say the least.

I don't know what it is exactly you installed, but the front axle assy on my '92 has some sort of attatchment that I have not seen on others. I call it a tracking or sway bar but I don't really know what the heck it's for.

The 93's have a front sway bar (or stabilizer as the manual calls it) from the factory. Still had bad body roll when going around corners so decided to put one on the rear as well. As rough riding as these trucks are, I figured it wouldn't make much difference to the ride and it didn't seem to do anything to that - Still rough! :(

Tried to find some velvet ride shackles for the rear a few weeks ago but never did find any for a first gen.

Scott, I thought they were standard. Maybe they were an option??

Mine mounts to the frame crossover below the radiator and turns back toward the control arms at the ends. The links drop down from the strut rods a few inches forward of the lower control arm.

Ditto the rain comment and oversteer. I found out last rain storm that my new hi-way tires are WAY slippery compared to my BFG a/ts in the on-ramp grand prix

Scott, I didn't think about the window sticker. I have mine but I think it is in the truck and the truck is in the shop this week. I'l try to remember to look next week and see what it shows. I'm sure you have it right about being an option.

Well, I had it here at the house after all. Yep, it was a $41 option :)

I got one on the front and back, and neither one is going anywhere. The 92 is the first 2wd I've had with the front sway bar, and it handled better than Mom's earlier 92, sans sway bar, most else equal (flatbed manual vs reg bed auto). Then I got around to hooking up the bar that came with the D80, and WOW!!! I might even pay for this is I had to. but not too much, mind you. Dont want to dump too much money in this thing. Now if/when I get around to replacing the worn bushings on the front.....

I was just looking at these. I can't find the link right now but they were 146. 00, front or rear. I have one off a part truck but it's whimpy compared to a Helwig.
