Where can the best price be had for a rear sway bar that fits a 95 Ram 2500. Has anyone else added one of these, and if so, your opinion on its value. Thanks
I don't have a sway bar on my 2500, but I think JC Whintney sells Hellwig sway bars for a pretty good price. I remember reading one of the TDR issues and a member saying it was a pretty good investment. Hope this helps.
I've owned several Rams without a rear sway bar and would like to add one. In no way would I discourage you from the above posts or adding a bar, but will say that the Roadmaster Suspension kits have really worked for me. Cornering is greatly improved, rear wheel hop is gone (especially in "studder" bumps), and ride is actually improved. Rancho 9000's compliment them but the Roadmasters with OEM shocks work nicely on V-10's and CTD's.
I plan to adapt a set to use on the front of a 1rst generation CTD to (hopefully) improve the ride. Please let us know how your afermarket sway bar works. I've intended to add one but now my back end handles better than the front.
Especially on the 4X4's. They have such a high center of gravity, the rear bar helps control the body lean, which puts more weight on the outside tires. The rear bar especially helps when towing 5'ers. The pin hitch point causes a 'rotation' about the length of the truck when side winds hit. The rear bar keeps the butterflies out of your stomach.
The Hellwig bar is larger than the stock bar. On some of the trucks at work we have Hellwig bar and pipe racks. Because the pipe racks are so stiff and the bar is so strong the trucks that don't haul any weight flex the beds so bad that they crack around the upper front corners. These ARE Fords and GMCs but be careful about too stiff of a bar.
Were the sway bar really helps is when pulling a large gooseneck trailer. It takes the side to side movement out when going around tight corners on the back roads around here. I have drove both a 97 2500 4x4 without the swat bar and my 99 2500 4x4 with the sway bar and my truck handles the same load with alot more confadence.
