My rear truck window has been leaking and is now getting bad. It is leaking around the gasket on the slider, and also it seems that it is not glued in very well because it is leaking near the top also. I have heard that dodge has had problems with this. I have been trying to narrow it down between the third brake light and the window and I am about 90% sure that the window is 90% of my problem.

Calling around to different glass shops I have gotten prices between $275 and $435 for a solid window. The cheaper shop has done work for both my Dad and my father-in-law and they have had good luck with them. I am just curious as to why the big difference. The cheaper guy will come out to my house today and do it in my garage, so at the same time I can fix my gate that blew down against my tailgate last night.

Let me know if there is anything bad about cheaper glass shops I need to know.

Big mark up on glaas. Most come or are made by same who make factory. I know in greater Atlants most ALL come from same whse no matter who installs or what company they own or work for. I'd go with best price. The impoertant thing is a experienced installer whom knows how to clean and apply the sealant etc.

At least on the 2nd gens, the 3rd brake light leaked much more often than the rear window. Mine has a sliding rear window, and I've never had a leakage problem.

The fact that your family members had good luck with the one company would persuade me to go with them. Cost would be secondary to satisfied customers.

Exactly, It is getting replaced at 2:00 today. Hopefully it takes care of the leak.

Window is replaced and third brake light is also sealed all the way around. Now we just wait and see if it leaks still.

In Bend, OR in Nov. 2003, I got five or six prices on a manual slider that were plus/minus $200. 00 (in the small town of Bend!). I went with the next-to-the-lowest price: They had been in business for many years, they offered a 2 year warranty against leaks (which they stated [in writing] they would honor if another shop repaired the window because I was too far away to come to them), and they had their own shop where they parked my truck INSIDE overnight so the sealant could cure properly. No leaks or problems to-date. Kroske Glass of Bend, OR.
