A friend has a 94 2500, 4wd standard cab. He has a clicking/popping noise from the rear of the truck when turning from a stop. It does not occur when going straight. This problem has only started 2 months ago, and he has had the truck for over 2 years. We think he has a limited slip, so he changed the gear oil and added some 'whale oil', which didnt help the popping. the truck has over 178k miles on it. Any ideas as to what this might be?

Add more Mopar AntiSlip Additive. Also, do lots of tight figure 8's after adding additive to work it in.

Most likely nothing wrong.

Try adding another bottle of "friction Modifier". Use the stuff from the Dodge dealers. Its the best. Make sure the correct amount for the rearend was added.

I`ve had different lubes in the rear end since new. I`ve found some will make the rear differential "Pop" & "chatter" more than others, even with the proper (and more) amount of whale Oil.

Amsoil Series 2000 75W-90 is by far the quietest. I only had to had 4 oz of whale oil to clean up the chatter. This is amazing.

Torco 75W-90 was terrible. Red Line same thing. These are 10 bucks a quart lubes! I must have put almost twice the recommended amount of whale oil in with the above lubes. Still chattered. Too much additive is no good either.

There should be a little tag on the top left of the differential if it is a LSD. At least mine does.

Hey I have a 94' 4x4 and it does the same thing I have added a tube by tube of that limited slip oil and I think I'm up to four tubes now it doesn't want to unlock all the time. One time it'll pop and bang next time it won't usuall coming from a stop it will do it every time what gives, certainly not my Dana 80

Guys, if you can't tell if you have limited slip by checking tags or stickers, jack up the back of the truck, with both wheels off the ground spin one, if the other turns in the same direction, you have limited slip.
