Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Rebuild cost

Ok Ok I know this is a loaded question - but when the time comes for a rebuild - and hoping that's maybe in another lifetime, what do you think the cost would be, to have it done, not doing it myself? BTW, since these don't have sleeves, the rebuild I assume will be like a gas rig and not be near as good as the original. Is this correct? I can't imagine what a new short-block would cost?
