Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) Weak starter?

I have all my parts together and I’m ready to start the rebuild process. My first problem is finding an engine stand that will hold the mighty and heavy Cummins 5. 9. I borrowed one from my local Dodge dealer. They say they bought this stand for the sole purpose of rebuilding Cummins 5. 9's. Problem is it looks like it bolts up from both ends. How are you supposed to work of the front of the engine? Here's a picture of the stand. Anybody use one of these before? #ad

Link is not working for me I just was given a plate that bolts to the back of the "5. 9" for a regular engine stand. Not sure if it is heavy enough to support the engine from the rear.

I used the cheap one I bought from Maxtool. It was fine all throughout the rebuild. The weak link is the backing plate. It was fine with just the block, crank and pistons. When I put the head on it started to flex so I hooked the engine crane to the lifting bracket in front while I worked. If I needed the crane I would put a jackstand under the front for extra support, but I always went back to the crane for safety.

I beleive a stand like the is made to bolt to one side of the engine with a special plate that aligns with bolt holes on the block,it doesn't have to be used with both plates unless you are dealing with bigger engines that one plate can't support. See if either one of those plates will bolt to the side of the engine block if not see if the place you got it from has the "right" plate for the 5. 9.

Good Luck

The stand and plate on this engine stand looks very beefy. I'm going to hook the back side of the engine to the stand and see how sturdy it is.

Thanks
