Archived Rebuilt Getrag shifter stuck!

I just purchased my first 1st gen and bought it with a bad getrag. I purchased a rebuilt transmission from standard transmission along with a new southbend clutch. I got everything buttoned up and me and a buddy where installing the shifter. Its in neutral my buddy pushes it straight down and as soon as I install the snap ring it will only shift from 3rd to 4th. You can't get it to move over to get into 1st or 2nd or 5th and rev. As soon as I remove the snap ring it frees up still with the top ring that the snap ring sits on in the transmission and pressure from my buddy. I pulled it out and put it back probably 10 times. Has anyone ever had this happen? Thanks in advance!

Check the shift rails to see if they are where they are supposed to be and put the shifter back in. Outside of that, I don't have a clue!



If all else fails to work... Send mysteryman a PM and maybe he can help... I'm sure he has a solution or suggestion for your problem.



I rebuilt mine after reading a few of his posts as opposed to a swap or reman and have him to thank for 1/4 million miles and counting on my rebuild

Have you tried calling Standard and see if they have any solutions to your problem?
