Just picked up the new truck from Lou Fusz Dodge in St. Louis today. Great bunch of guys to work with. Drove the truck home to IN and my buddy was playing with the navigation system while we drove. We figured out that while moving, many of the features are disabled such as locating restaurants (more than 3), entering addresses adjusting the guidance voice volume, etc. I understand that this is for safety reasons so the driver can't drive for half a mile or more with his head down entering an address, but what if the passenger wants to work the features of the nav system?

Is there a way to disable the safety feature so all the features of the nav system can be accessed while moving? My friend couldn't find anything about this in the manual, and I have yet to mess with it.

Any info would be appreciated.

I agree with you bit is a pain but I have not found any way to change it. I do not think thay it is posssable. About the voice volume, can it be changed? I can't hear mine unless I am stoped.

Riverrat, When the lady is talking to you turn up the volume control. It will remember where you had it set last, so if you have the radio turned down and the nav turned up. The radio will be soft but when she comes on she will be loud. If you have the U-Connect it is the same way.

The REC is pretty new and the aftermarket companies are finally getting things out for it. They may have a hack for it soon so you can drive and play.

There is also a way to do it via the menu in the nav settings. You have to be stopped to change it this way, but I can't remember how to get to it at the moment.

I'll try adjusting it via the volume control as that would be a handy way to do it while moving. Thanks for the tip!

I'm thinking of calling Alpine and asking them directly. Other nav systems allow this safety feature to be turned off so the passenger can access all the options, so this one should also be able to do it somehow.
