I've given up on trying to save the cab on my '96 ext cab. It is falling apart due to wear and tear, the cost to refurbish it is going to be rough, unless I find another cab to pull the interior components out of, such as trim, seats, carpeting etc.
Does anyone have a good source for an entire cab? Since I'm going through the trouble of swapping to a less beaten cab, I want to find a '98 or newer with access doors. At leas then I'll have a way to get my son in and out without using the center console. We're planning for another child this next year, so getting a means to pull a car seat out easier from the back seat besides tilting the front seats would be a HUGE plus.
Preferably, I am looking for the following for a perfect match:
1. maroon exterior,
2. tan cloth interior. (it has held up well for 280,000 miles of abuse)
3. '98 or newer cab for the access doors (preferably a '98 or '99 model for color choices)
4. 1/2 gas cab with a clean VIN. (I don't haul heavy loads anymore, so the odds of a cream puff gasser should increase my odds of a decent interior). We do not have emissions to deal with, so I could care less if the VIN reflects gas or diesel, and the GVW is not important for my use either)
I've been searching Ebay and local dealer lots, but nothing has shown up that impresses me very much.
