If one has never visited the dealer, does the recall apply? The official notification suggests that only 'Chrysler-replaced' parts are possibly defective.

From the way the recall was worded, at least the one I recieved, you would have had to have a defective part installed by the dealer.

I went in anyway and everything was fine. Sorta sad though. I bought my truck at this dealership. They would easily have hundred new vehicles in their back lot. It was totally empty.

At least they were doing better than their sister Chevy dealer which had been shut down.

I had mine inspected before my warranty ran out on 6/30 and it qualified (well, no, see EDIT) for the recall. Since the upgrade parts don't interchange with the old parts, I now have all new steering linkages, pitman arm and steering damper. Oo.

EDIT: I reread my bill and it appears that my Gold warranty covered the parts that had looseness - the pitman arm and the cross link. Since any new version parts do not interchange with the old version, the dealer was required to replace all the parts. Since I do not have any record of previous parts being changed, it did not qualify for the recall per the definitions stated below.

So you see, its just depends on how the dealer views the recall.

Post #5 gets all new steering upgrade to the 09 style at no charge while post #6 gets a look and says good to go.

The deal on this recall is this-

The recall is for 03 thru early 08 4x4 trucks that were later fitted with the 09 style linkage. If 03 through early 08 owners still have the stock linkage the truck came with then its ok. . linkage is good.

Whats the 09 style linkage you ask? Take a look at his thread.

The OP says its 08 style and it is but its late 08 because early 08's have the same linkage as 03's do.

Some late 08 models and possibly 09's came original with the recalled linkage so they get included in the recall too.

The bad linkage kit part numbers are 52122362aa through 52122362ad and when the part number changed to "ae" the trouble had been fixed. More on that here.
