I received a letter, Feb 3 2003, in the mail from my local Dodge dealer stating that I needed to come in to have my truck inspected for a recall. They wanted me to come in and for my time they were going to change my oil and filter. Has anyone else received a similar letter?

Did the notice say what the recall was for?

Did it have any info on build dates?

I haven't seen one yet but that doesnt mean anything. my mail is always slow.

If it wasn't an official looking envelope with IMPORTANT RECALL NOTICE in big letters on the outside it is probably a scam from the dealer to reel in folks for service. No doubt if you take it in they'll find something else wrong that "needs immediate attention" but isn't under recall or maybe even warranty.

This would be the first recall that I've ever heard of that comes with a free oil change.

That or they are trying to be real discrete about a bad batch of something that went out either OEM or service department supplies.

This is all I found???

Make: DODGE

Model: RAM

Year: 2002

Recall Number: 02V159000

Summary:

ON CERTAIN 4X4 PICKUP TRUCKS, THE REAR AXLE FLANGE WELD TO THE AXLE TUBE COULD FATIGUE AND ALLOW THE BRAKE CALIPER ASSEMBLY TO ROTATE.

Consequence:

DURING ROTATION, THE BRAKE LINE COULD SEPARATE FROM THE CALIPER RESULTING IN A BRAKE FLUID LOSS IN THE REAR BRAKE HYDRAULIC SYSTEM.

Remedy:

DEALERS WILL INSTALL REAR BRAKE CALIPER REINFORCEMENTS ON THE REAR AXLE ASSEMBLIES. OWNER NOTIFICATION BEGAN DECEMBER 9, 2002. OWNERS WHO TAKE THEIR VEHICLES TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER ON AN AGREED UPON SERVICE DATE AND DO NOT RECEIVE THE FREE REMEDY WITHIN A REASONABLE TIME SHOULD CONTACT DAIMLERCHRYSLER AT 1-800-853-1403.

Notes:

ALSO, CUSTOMERS CAN CONTACT THE NATIONAL HIGHWAY TRAFFIC SAFETY ADMINISTRATION'S AUTO SAFETY HOTLINE AT 1-888-DASH-2-DOT (1-888-327-4236).

The brake bracket recall is on 2002 DR 1500's (3rd generation truck). Call your dealer, give them your vin and ask them to do a "function 14" and see if you have any recalls, I doubt you will. I also doubt they'd honor that "free oil change" when they realize you drive a CTD (3 gallons of oil.

I think it may be a scam by the local dealer. I doesn't look like official DC recall. I wouldn't mind the free oil change. But wouldn't want to mess with the local "geniuses" at the Dodge house.
