Went to the dealer today to test-drive a new 2003 2500 4x4 with HO and 6-speed and was told every Cummins equipped truck on the lot was on hold due to a just released recall. I was not able to test drive anything. I was told a small part related to the cooling system needed to be replaced before any trucks could be driven and/or sold. Said it would be about a week before the new parts come in and replaced on the trucks in inventory. Anyone else hear anything about this?

No. Was at the dealer today and they did not say anything. Course I did not ask either. But I will go back there tommorrow to get my free ham and I will ask. :D

I was at the dealer yesterday for some warrenty work and I asked about any recalls and there was only one. The reason I asked was because I had read on TDR about some talk of bad check valves for the automatic transmission cooling system. The service writer showed me the printout for my truck and the only recall was the cooling fan nut/bolt tourqe which I had done on a previous visit as it's only a matter of retourqing the nut's

It is true

My dealer informed me today of the recall.

It is the drainback check valve for the t/c. It may stick, and not let the oil flow to the transmission cooler.

He was really insistent that I bring it in the minute the part comes in.

Sorry, I didn't think to get you guys the tsb #. Better check with your dealer!

It is not a recall or TSB at this time. It is what they call Rapid Response Transmittal #02-022 and was sent to all the dealers on the dial mail on November 26th.

check valve

Have been saying for years that the check valve is a time bomb. Removing it can cause or add to drainback which makes it advisable to start truck in neutral cold before first trip of day. With DTT valvebody converter charge is improved greatly and drainback is hardly an issue. :p

FLASH: Talked with my Dodge fleet man(a TDR member) on the way into work this AM. He told me of the trannie problem... ... ... they don't just get HOT, they MELT! He has had 4 trannies go bad. Some in as low as 300 miles. It is a national problem but spotty. It appears like DC has isolated the problem and are moving to fix it.

Heads Up!

They might not have to fix your's. The dealers were sent a VIN list with the letter that had the affected trucks listed. Your dealer can double check and see if yours is on it. If not, you can get your truck now. Apparently it did not affect all trucks.

Evidently I'm on that list...

I've put 4700 flawless miles on her so far, and plan 200 more before she goes in Monday. Hoping I'll be alright...

Anyone have a line on where to find this list? My dealer can't find one, says it's not in their d-mail. . He's going to make some calls, but I am not too sure how sucessful he'll be.

I sure would love to pick my truck up tonight. .
