Just got this in the mail, (S68/NHTSA16V-79) it is concerning the 220 Amp alternator, that it can fail or short out, causing a serious enough condition to cause an accident. Any one else getting this recall?
Most trucks didn't have the 220amp alternator.. I was actually looking to upgrade mine to the 220, I think the base alternator is only 140amps, too low in my opinion.
Yes I got the recall 3 weeks after my alt burned up. I'm now waiting for a refund from FCA. If you'r truck has the snow plow prep kit in it chances are you have the larger 220 amp alt already installed as my truck did.
I ordered my truck with the 220 amp alternator. I almost fried it when my AC clutch failed, I came real close to replacing it as a proactive approach. Good thing I didn't, but how long is it going to take for them to replace it.
I had a friend who had a melt down and fire under the hood of a 2013, and it started at the alternator.... it was towed to the dealer and was IMMEDIATELY fixed, (took 3 weeks to get parts) and handed back as good as new.... he than was afraid of the truck and traded it off for a 16..... BTW they picked up the tow bill for both the truck and trailer.. I wonder if the two are related....
So where do we find the web site... that allows us to run the VIN # to verify what they installed on the trucks when built???? I need to bookmark that site...
I'm sure someone will respond quicker, but I'll post info if it's on the recall. BTW, they do list vehicles involved. Police optioned cars are effected as well.
If you go to Chrysler's web page there is a link to enter by VIN and it will tell you all recalls that apply by your VIN, and even the status of completion. I did with mine and verified it was not affected, doesn't have the 220amp alternator.

NO OVERSEAS people to deal with.... but alas.. I have the 220 amp alternator but she could tell me if I'm part of the S68 recall....
Its like chatting with Freightliner or CAT.... I'm impressed...
