I still have not done the recall on the truck for the engine wire that can melt and cause fires for my 2001. 5.

I really do not want to take it to the dealer since he really messed up last time and I really do not feel like argueing with him.

Does anyone know how to perform this recall on your own? I am not sure which wire they are referring to.

thanks,

Mike

Recall?

Can someone inform me as to what this pertains to?

I have an 01. 5.

My dealership went out of business so I do not get any information from them.

I went to my local dealer to have the recall done, the service writer told me that since they don't have a diesel tech they could not perform the recall on my truck. I smiled and promply left.

I had it done to my 01 when it was in for new mirrors. The recall is because the wires into the PDC (power distribution center) may get loose because of the angle the are put into the box. All the tech did was unhook the wire and re-route it and put it back in. I am out of town right now or I would run out and take a pic for you to compare to your truck. I had never planned on having this done untill I needed two new mirriors because the heat grids went out.

So short story, yes you could do it your self if you could see what had to be done. In the mean time pull the cover off your pdc and make sure the bolts that hold down the wires are tight.

Never the dealer!

I just ignored my third recall notice. I've heard that each dealer does it slightly differently--most just tighten the nut. I opted to change the angle of the cable (both cable crimp openings were already facing upward), add shrink tubing, and then some lock-tite and retorqued the nuts. No fires expected here. :D
