Considering Slide-in

What is the average drop hitch required for a car hauler trailer. I am borrowing the neighbors 16' car hauler. I think it msut be a 6' drop.

Casey,

Sounds like you've got it figured! :)

I pull a 18' Burke car-hauler, 2' of which is beaver tail, with my '03 Dually 4x4. It pulls level with a 7" drop ball mount. A 6" ball mount runs the tail a bit low for getting through dips, but runs the trailer plenty level to balance the load across the tandem axles.

:--)

The 6" drop you're considering should be fine, especially if the trailer does not have a beaver tail. Of course, the best bet is to back up to the trailer on level ground and measure for your actual truck and actual trailer.

Good luck and tow safe!

My 2 cents

Casey,

If you have a 2500 it will sit lower under the same load as the '03 dually, so it may not require a full 7" drop. Remember that you want it to sit near level loaded not empty.

Consider an adjustable height hitch.

Lottsa luck brother,

I had an 8" drop for my old TT and U-Hauls. After I had the back end of the truck lowered (by TSB), I only need a 6" drop.
