OK, guys, how about some recommendations.

I need to install an alarm so I can relax when my baby is out of sight in the parking lots. (Well, maybe not relax- they can still run into it, but at least it will still be there when I get back)

Should I go with the Mopar stuff, or go to aftermarket? Your advice is appreciated.

When I hear a car alarm go off, I just ignore it. Most people do.

There are several ways to make a hidden kill switch, that won`t allow the truck to start or get fuel. They are inexpensive & simple to make.

A bunch of members have them.

The kill switch sounds like a great idea. I think I have seen this somewhere on the forums. Do you splice into the lift pump wiring?I have a `95 manual from when I had my 12 valve 6BT. I really need to get the `01 FSM. On my `68 Barracuda Fastback I put a Battery disconnect switch on the POS Battery wire where the battery mounts in the trunk and also a switch in series with the electric fuel pump under the dash. I must agree with you because the alarms are annoying and yes I hear so many of them that now it is just a thing. Oh! My wife hates them when they go off #ad

I wired a push button into the ignition-to-starter relay wire. The button is located on the left side of the drivers seat--the plastic piece that extends down from the fabric. The button must be held down or it won't crank. Hopefully a thief won't take time to lean why it won't crank.
I agree regarding the alarms. I sat in a shopping center parking lot awhile back and watched some fellow frantically trying to stop a blaring alarm. He finally got it stopped and drove away. Several others watched. I idly wondered was it another false alarm, or was he stealing the rig. No one did anything other than watch. They (false alarms) are so common they seem to mean nothing. especially in cities.

You can get several good security systems that will disable the fuel and starter systems, that do not have a alarm. You can add a sireen, flashing head lights, auto door locks etc. A good one will also give you your insurance deductable if the vehicle is stolen. I have a Clifford at $150 with lifetime warranty as long as I own the truck.

My brother (works for a stereo shop) had an alarm in his Honda that saved him from getting stuff stolen. He broke down on the freeway at night, and had to leave it there overnight. When we got back to his car, the stereo was the only thing that got stolen. His two amps and subwoofer box with 3 JL 10W6's (about $1000 vs. $300 for the stereo) was untouched. This was largely in part because he had a 130 dB bull horn mounted under the box that points right at you if you open the trunk. It's imppossible to do any work with that in your ear. The crooks ripped his battery out from under the hood to stop the alarm, but he had a back-up behind the horn. The back-up battery also gives you an extra discount on full coverage auto insurance.

If done right an alarm can be a valuable tool, but most places (window tint shops) set them too sensitive. I can drop the tailgate on my truck and all I get is a chirp. If it's hit hard enough to break a window, or the door is opened it goes off. Just get a high-end stereo shop to install it; they know what they're doing. The brand I would recommend is Ungo.
