Portable welders.. ?

Looking for a machinable epoxy compound. Something suitable for use on our engines... ... one that won't separate from the iron.

Please give link to it... . :)

TIA

JB Weld is the only thing that comes to mind, but, I know it can break loose from what it is used on. Poor prep may be part of it, though. Can't really say.

Try a product called Devcon, its a plastic steel putty. Part #10110. Its an epoxy thats can be tapped, or machined. Ive used it to repair a cracked head on the generator in one of my boats and it worked really well. I dont have a lot of information on the manufacturer, I get it at a local industrial supply store. If u cant find it PM me ill try and get some more info.

Another product that I have used alot is called marine tex, it can be drilled tapped etc. available at any marine store.

I used J-B Weld to repair an elongated, tapped bolt hole in a boat manifold once that was still intact 7 years later when I sold the boat.

Whatever you use, having the surface impecably clean and properly prepared is crucial to success. Follow the instructions diligently.

DevCon is the hot ticket! I've used it in the past. It actually has steel in the mix. I think my boss got it at the Deere dealer. I could be wrong, it was 15 years ago.

There is one more that would work well. Caterpillar makes one that is very good and was made to work with metal surfaces. Stripping all oil or residue and roughing the surfaces will ensure a good bond. Thanks
