All you Colorado members in TDR land, Where in Colorado would be a good vacation spot? I am looking for something in the mountains, no cities. Maybe a bed/breakfast place with something(s) to do for the summer 07.

Looking for a picturesque place, small town, golf course, horseback riding, canoeing. Any suggestions on what part of the state, area to go?

I was once stationed in Denver a long timeago (1986) but really only remember Denver area and Boulder, Estes Park. Tell me where in your state to go that would be scenic and would be enjoyed by all. TIA.

klenger and mdivincentis have suggested two nice areas. Athough I didn't hang out much in the Dillon or Winter Park area, they are both very nice.

We lived near Denver and would take short weekend trips. Most of the time we took our travel trailer so I don't know much about the bed and breakfasts.

Grand Lake is a pretty area just north of Winter Park. I'm sure there is canoeing and horseback riding up there but not sure about golf.

As a frequent visitor (and wishful future resident), I say it's hard to go wrong with any choice.

Buena Vista is nice, and conveniently located, with mountain vistas in the Presidential Range, scenic trails in the mountains (especially up Chalk Creek canyon), and rafting and fishing on the Arkansas River.

My favorite part of the state is the San Juans Mountains in the Southwest. Ouray is called the Switzerland of America for the vertical scenery (and has nice B&Bs--personal experience). Telluride (and Mountain Village, at the top of the ski area) is fascinating, and has myriad festivals. Silverton and Durango have no shortage of interesting things to see & do, including riding the narrow gauge railroad (book the Parlor Car--you'll be glad you did). And of course, there is great scenic (and mostly easy) 4-wheeling in the area on the Alpine Loop National Scenic Byway.

I have to agree with Mark. The San Juans or SW area of the state. Dont get my next few statements wrong. They are both awesome places. While Summit County (Breck, Dillon, Silverthorne) is certainly nice and have spent many a day there and had a good time it seems anymore to be overcrowded. Fraser Valley sort of the same thing though not as bad. While Lake Granby, Shadow Mtn and Grand lake are excellent choices and a good time will be had there are just a lot of people up there in the summer.

Durango will be busy as well but Ouray wont be bad as it is so small it cant get that busy. You can always blast down to Durango for the train or over to Telluride. Telluride is great just expensive to stay and somewhat remote from everywhere else if wanting to get anywhere else. If in Ouray you are close enough to someplace that you can raft, golf, 4 wheel, hike, a couple national parks (black canyon and mesa verde), fish etc. Not much I can think of that you cant get near Ouray and the scenery is just unbeatable.
