Good morning all,

I am looking for some (what I call) stirrup steps for Godzilla. If I don't have the terminology right, those single ladder steps to help you climb up into the cab...

Which brands are the best heavy duty ones, and where can I get them? I say heavy duty, because I'm a big guy, 6' and 270 lbs, and I don't want to break them as soon as I install them.

Many thanks,
Tom

I dunno,I think those might be a little too 'light duty' for you.
I had a friend that had a 97 Ram 2500 ext cab 4x4 and bought those same stirrups that you want. He was a tall kid that didn't need them, but wanted them in place because his mom drove the truck most of the time. This was a big lady,5'9" and 260+,and everytime she stepped on those stirrups you could see the things flexing badly because you drill into the pinch welds at the bottom of the cab flanges to mount them in place. Enough flexing on those flanges and the welds will eventually break. Not a very durable mounting in my opinion.

I believe MikeR is correct about them flexing. Had a pair on my Ramcharger and when I got into it they would flex too. I'm 6' and only about 200#. Mopar has a few different types. I bought the aluminum ones that are full length for the Quad cab from the dealer and installed them myself. They are kinda pricey but look great. The install is easy and looks like a good factory setup!

I have the WARN brand steps. I chose them because they are all steel and they bolt to the frame not the sheetmetal body. Very heavy duty!!!!

Tom,
Beartrack is right. They have to bolt back to the frame. Mine came with two braces that were in two pieces each. I bolted them to the step and to the frame. Then I welded the two pieces togather in place for a perfect fit. It worked very well.

nerf bars will help protect the lower sheetmetal from door dings by we@%$&cks in cars and 4x2's
just my opinion and experience

I installed a set of stirrup steps on a Ram which was in our shop. I wont name the brand. You can email me to get that info. They were a solid step but used a cheap way of bolting on. 2 bolts that went through the pinch weld at the bottom of the rocker panel. There was also a tapered shim which went behind the step to keep it from flexing. For the money I would invest in a high quality set of nerf bars or running boards.

I agree with JNutter,Nerf bars are the way to go,i,ve actually been in the truck when some goober opened their door onto my truck !Not a mark on my nerf bars but a nice little crease in their door. They,re really sturdy & make getting in & out of the truck alot easier especially after a long day. Talk to jesse out at the Line-X place on Auburn Blvd in Sac. A great person to work with for After Market goodies. All my stuff on my signatue was purchased from him. E-mail me for more imfo. Ian

Another recommendation for the Warn 4x Steps. I've got them, and they are quite sturdy. I weigh in around 240 lbs, and I don't think they even flex! The other steps (Carr, Steel Horses**t, etc. ) are not very sturdy. Plus, the Warn steps are molded rubber, so they provide good traction in wet conditions. The only drawback to the Warn steps is the cost. I think I paid about $130 for the pair.....
