Just picked up a new 2022 3500 Big Horn (long bed) and I am now researching a 5th wheel hitch (to match the pucks). I've seen a number of hitches that have different vertical adjustment ranges; what is the recommended range to have available to help ensure adequate trailer to bed rail clearance? Some ranges are in the 14-18" range and another adjusts in the 16-19" range. I don't have a 5th wheel yet, but want to be prepared; do I need to wait until I know the pin box?

Thanks for the inputs, JP

I never considered the vertical range when buying a puck system hitch, I knew the only hitch I wanted to run was the B&W Companion RVK3600 and I’ve been very happy with it. It has plenty of adjustment, especially when you take into account the 5th wheel also has vertical adjustment.

Thanks. I have read many good reviews of the RVK3600 and it is on my list. I don't expect to require towing capacity above 16k, so have also been looking at others. But it's good to know that the pin box can also be adjusted. I'm coming from the travel trailer world so this is new to me.

If you want top quality 100% US Made the B&W is the way to go. If you want simple solid construction and no question if you are properly hitched the B&W is the way to go.

Do NOT even consider the CURT or ANDERSEN.

The Highway Products tool box is top cabin also!

I have a Mopar 30K fifthwheel hitch I would let go for a good price, I used it 3 times in my 19. Traded for a 21 and got another hitch.

Above hitch is Made in China by CURT. I have used that hitch and it can lead to chucking with the heads pivot point several inches below kingpin attachment. Also it can be a PITA to unhitch with truck and RV on different angles not to mention the flimsy latching mechanism.

I installed a Reese Goosebox gooseneck on my Montana fifth wheel. Tows smooth as silk. No chucking since the unit has a built in air shock. 20K capacity. The best part is no 150Lb chunk of steel in my bed when I unhook. Pull the ball out and drop the cover in the hole.

If you got the bucks an AIR RIDE Hensly 5th wheel hitch is the way to go . I have had a solid hitch and they don't compare to an air ride the front of your trailer floats over bumps and holes in the road . Much easier on the truck also . Alll American made . You will need at least 5 to 7 inches of rail clearance . 6 to 7 would be best when dealing with uneven ground . Have fun .

B&W has been my favorite, I see no reason to change brands. I've had two of the companion hitches and the turn overball on older trucks has worked flawlessly.

RVK3600 and it is on my list

What else do you have on your list? Don't forget the "Graphite Lube Plate" B&W offers. I about wound up with the MOPAR hitch till advise on here said go with the B&W.

Having used several other hitches: Hoping the lever stays pulled out till I can back up to and capture the 5th wheel pin, getting out, it's stuck, back in, release parking brake, jerk the clutch to rattle the hitch loose, and 2-3 tries later the lever will finally release the 5er...

The B&W is the nicest I have used so far. Esp. for hooking and unhooking without all the damn drama the others gave me. It also comes apart to lighten it up some when you need to take it out and in.
