I have a 2015 3500 Laramie Longhorn dually and I'm about to install the Recon Big Rig Ice lights. My question is where to tap in for the ice light function. I need to know what wire, and where to find it, for the interior lights. TIA

I didn't know what they were either so googled them and came up with the side marker lights. I may be wrong so I would certainly investigate this more but from what I understand whatever module it is that controls the lighting on the vehicle is quite temperamental and only works within certain parameters. Adding lights to it is not something it likes as it senses the additional voltage/amperage use and figures something is wrong or burns up. However from my understanding the trailer light circuits are separated or at the least are under a different set of rules as Ram has no idea what kind of lights, how many etc are going to be on the trailer you hooked up. If it were me and it was not long ago with my headache rack lights I would tap into the trailer light harness. I don't recall which specific wire does which function in that harness but a search on here would probably reveal the color/function of the wire.
I tow a 5th wheel among other trailers and have a second 7 pin plug in the bed of the truck for the 5th or goose neck trailer. I was a bit hesitant to tear into either the oem or the second plug wiring as the oem is quite tight and the additional one is just in a very bad spot up in the space between the inner and outer bed wall. So I just added yet another one it just goes inline with the existing plug and provides a four flat then just get a 4 flat plug pigtail connect your light wires, plug it in and done.

Like this (just example of first one not sure it would be the correct one but looks like it would work)

though am a bit confused about the interior lights portion of your last comment I may have looked up the wrong ice lights I assumed (and we know what that can do) that the ice lights would be on at the same time as the parking/marker lights hence the above description

I ordered a set of these lights, they'll be here Saturday. So I guess I'll find out which wire pretty quick. I'm planning on attaching to the wire in the door that runs to the courtesy lamp in the mirror, unless I find that the dome light is easier to get to. Actually it might be, since I'm going to have the headliner down and the a pillars off, anyway (read on).

My truck didn't come with cab lights, I'm installing those this weekend, too. That one's pretty straight forward once you get over drilling 15 holes in the roof. I installed clearance lights on my wife's 1500, not too bad a job. The factory clearance light kit instructions have you splice into the parking lamp wire. So I guess not all "tapping" is bad.

I installed the lights (but didn't hook up the ice function yet) and they were immediately problematic. After calling Recon, I was told that I would need to install the diodes that were included in the kit. Well, I hadn't seen any diodes with the kit, so I started digging...into the original packaging...thankfully, I had saved it. I couldn't see to the end of the box and shaking it yielded no sound, so I sliced the box open along it's length. The plastic bag with the diodes, connectors and instructions was actually taped to the inside of the box at the opposite end from where I had opened it (of course). After installing the diodes (very easy) the lights are now working perfect....except for the ice function. I have no desire to remove my door panels to hook up these lights, and I don't think it should be necessary..maybe I'm wrong, but I'm hoping there's a fuse that I can tap into under the hood to power the ice function.

The courtesy light wire should be running up the A pillar. I'll have my headliner down this weekend and will be able to check the wire color.

Just noticed the lady who did the video linked a post in the description where she describes the whole install and what wire she tapped.

Wanna know how to upfit your truck????

http://www.rambodybuilder.com

it might be just me, but when I try to dl the info on 2017 trucks, this site doesn't work. The bodybuiler information at ramtrucks.com isn't really useful for this project either, unless I'm overlooking something.

I did my cablights today and wouldn't you know it, forgot to check the color of the courtesy light wire while I had the liner down.

The link takes me to a pdf where I can select van or truck, I click truck and it takes me to a page where I can select 1500LD, 2500/3500 HD, or chassis cab. But when I click 2500/3500 nothing happens. This is Windows 10 Explorer (Edge I think they call it now). Tried chrome too.

What did you find the easiest to get to the headlight connections? Did you take out the headlight? Or drop the fender well?

Also, which wires are which on the headlight connector? That info would save me a bunch of time with the voltmeter figuring out which wire is which. TIA

Interesting, using Windows 7, Internet explorer 11, works just fine. Does not work in Firefox or chrome for me.

Oh well, guess you'll have to give your truck to me and let me work on it for you. I'll get it back to you when I'm done. :D

So because every so often RAM adds additional accessories for Ram trucks and becomes a part of a prewired bundle installed on the factory floor. This huge interior harness runs from the firewall back to the back of the floor cab assembly. What you need is to give either Sag2 or Bob4x4 your VIN so that he can give you the correct color coded harness for that model year your RAM was built.Tapping into any wire might throw a fault. To explain the logic of the BCM is too much for me to type. But if you don't get it right, you can ask and they might have a solution that will fit your need for lighting control, without triggering a fault.

I removed the headlight (each side), ran the Recon wires up into the headlight area, then used PosiTap connectors to tap into the turn signal and parking light wires. If you look closely at the plug, the wires are numbered. I don't remember which was which, but I know that I tapped into wires 2 and 12 on each side. I just used a simple test light to check for parking lights and turn signal function.

Got my lights installed today.
For the courtesy lights, I tapped into a wire at the connector in the panel at the driver's side dash. It's behind the little side panel, and the wires from it run up the A pillar to the overhead console.

On my 2017 it wasn't the same pin described by the lady in the video I linked. It ended up being the third pin back counting from the front of the truck.

Everything works, I did not need the diodes (in fact it appears there are diodes are soldered in series with the wires, kinda hidden in the loom.) Initially I installed the extra ones supplied but had to take them off to get my lights to work.

On my 2017, the parking lamp bulb has its own 3 pin connector separate from the rest of the headlight. The running/parking light is the middle pin, and the blinker is the wire that isn't black.

I highly recommend using positap connectors for the wiring vs the supplied taps. They are about a dollar apiece but they don't make a mess of the wires you tap.
