Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Recurring Codes

Since replacing my VP44 and the onset of colder weather, I have had a recurring problem, setting a 1693 code. Typically the code will clear itself after a few engine starts, but return the same day or maybe a couple of days later.

What might be a likely cause of this problem and where should I look, if in fact it is a connector issue?
