Hey Kowboy, don't be so jumpy, we're all in this thing to learn something. I work in a Hydrocracker Unit which is the major producer of diesel fuel. There is no reason for red dyed diesel to smoke or have less power, etc. etc. It is exactly the same diesel as the normal "pump" diesel and the dye doesn't cause smoking, it is inert. Montana put 42 "inspectors" throughout the state to monitor red dyed diesel usage. I don't know how they are doing at enforcing these laws. I know it takes several tanks of normal diesel before you can get rid of the red dye in the tank. Steve H>
