I'm getting ready to do the free spin, ball joints and axle u-joints and have been reading all the threads of the subject. I have come across a few references, very few at that, to the use by Dodge of red high temperature Loctite on the 4 bolts that hold the disk brake bracket to the front knuckles. Have those that have had there front ends apart come across the use of this Loctite? I understand that it takes the use of a torch to heat the bolts to remove them and they are torqued to around 250 ft.lbs.

Truck is a 2006 Dodge 2500 4x4 quad cab with the Cummins.

Hey good luck with the project! Please keep us posted and let us know how you do. What free spin kit did you decide on? Those bracket bolts didn't give me any grief compared to extracting the hubs themselves! Either way, you'll separate the good tools from the not so good on this job. Two things that come to mind; Loosen the big hub nut before you jack it up, and make sure you have good jackstands and jack. This ain't no Chevy Nova you're dealing with! IIRC, I used blue Loctite. I didn't have to heat those bolts to remove.

I'm using the EMC kit that I purchased several years ago, but never found the time to get it in, also using Carli ball joints and Percision 464 u-joints. I have all the tools, like OTC 8031 ball joint kit, jack stands, torch, complete set of metric and sae wrenches. I will probably start it after Christmas.

Use high quality, snug fitting sockets for the hub bolts; iirc they are 12 point and 9/16". You can also try the slightly smaller 14 mm on them.

Red doesnt require the use of a torch. I use red every day at work. More important is the use of quality fasteners and tools.

I have done a little research, there are multiple red Loctite, one requires 500 degrees to soften enough to disassemble. That is what a few of the people that have done the front disk brake bracket have found that was used, but it could have just been the 250 ft.lb. of torque that is called for to take the strain of the brakes.
