Competition "Smoked" a Subaru WRX Turbo

Competition Where is the power?

Here is a bad blurry photo of the engine on the dyno under load. It was pure yellow before we got the wastegate open. Then all came around, and was only cherry red... I made Dustin, son an driver run in at 4000 RPM and full load to get a few photos. He claims this is child abuse.

We are using a RaceGate from turbonetics. Works out great. Gained over 100 HP by "trimming" the match with a combination of how far the wastegate opens, and when. More left in the tuning...

More photos at www.cumminsracing.com at the bottom of the main page. .

Any Idea what temperature that is?

I thought Headers would start glowing like that around 600*. Of course, the complete header, inside and out, would have to be 600*.

That's just my assumption gathered from ill collected sources.

Temperature?

Lets say that in the car, it hits 1800 in 2. 3 seconds. On the dyno, we were over 2000 berfore we could abort the test. .

Lots cooler now that the wastegate is balancing the load over the two turbos...

The first shot on the web phot is only around 12-1300. A cast manifold takes longer to get there, but will glow nice too...

Yep, and it works good... . It actually bypasses too much, as the pressure between the turbos is off a bit when it opens. I am tweaking it down on the max open setting to find the right balance.
