Is the wire gauge of the running and stop lights large enough to handle a Red 3157 LED placed in the backup light socket and hooked in parallel? Seems this would make for much better all around lighting than trying to go for amber blinkers and still have to deal with wimp tailights. One of the aftermarkets is supposed to come out with a killer large LED replacement assembly sometime in march.

thanks rj

I looked at Digi-Key.com for LED's and found ultrabrites available in several colors. Most pull 20 ma each. You could string three or four in series to get close to 10 volts, then use a resistor in series to drop the balance of the excess voltage. Several strings could be placed in parallel to get the briteness you are looking for with a minimal current draw. Each string would only be 1/50th or an amp.
